About the Program

Designed for tax, financial, and legal professionals who want to be able to identify gift and estate tax issues when advising clients, this summer session with will focus on basic estate and gift tax concepts. The speakers will then build on the concepts learned by discussing commonly used planning structures. Attendees will be engaged with practical case studies and hypotheticals, including instruction on preparing gift and estate tax returns.

Learning Objectives:

  • Introduction to U.S. estate and gift tax regime
  • Discussion of commonly utilized estate planning structures for estate and gift tax planning
  • Introduction to the fundamentals of estate and gift tax return preparation

 

About the Speakers

Lauren Talkington is an attorney with Snell & Wilmer. Her practice is concentrated in private client services, specifically estate planning, probate, as well as estate and trust litigation. Lauren also provides advice regarding income, gift, and estate tax issues with experience in preparing taxable estate tax returns and gift tax returns. She received her Bachelors from Northern Arizona University (Business Economics and International Affairs) and her JD from the University of Arizona. In her free time, Lauren can be found in the forests of Northern Arizona happily enjoying the outdoors.

Kaylan Brushwood serves as a Principal and member of BeachFleischman’s Tax Department, specializing in delivering comprehensive tax planning and compliance solutions to high-net-worth individuals. Kaylan also leads the firm’s estate and trust practice, where she helps clients navigate tax implications related to managing wealth and assets to benefit heirs and beneficiaries. Kaylan attended Texas A&M University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Master of Science in Finance. Kaylan has worked in public accounting since 2007 and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in Arizona.
