Primer on Generation Skipping Transfer Tax

Basic mechanics of the generation-skipping transfer tax, including explanation of key terms, the situations in which the tax applies, and how the GST exemption works. I will also cover how to allocate the GST exemption on gift and estate tax returns, and the automatic exemption rules.

 

About the Speakers

Colleen A. Cacy is a partner with the firm and has practiced in the area of estate planning and taxation for the past 18 years, with a focus in recent years on complex estate and trust administration. She was recently elected to membership in the American College of Trust and Estate Council. Colleen is a Past President of the Board of the Southern Arizona Estate Planning Council and a member of the Executive Committee of the Probate and Trust Section of the State Bar.

Colleen is a member of the State Bar of Arizona, the Probate and Trust and Tax Sections of the State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the Pima County Bar Association. Colleen is listed in Arizona’s Finest Lawyers.

Colleen received her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1986. She holds two Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Kansas, graduating with distinction in 1983. Prior to moving to Tucson in 1989, she worked as an associate for the firm Streich Lang Weeks and Cardon in Phoenix. Prior to moving to Tucson in 1989, she worked as an associate for the firm Streich Lang Weeks and Cardon in Phoenix. Colleen has two children. She is a member and past President of the Board of ZUZI Dance Company and is active in the non-profit arts community.

Gary Fletcher is an attorney and CPA at the firm Nystedt & Fletcher, PLLC in Tucson, Arizona. Gary practices tax accounting and estate planning, and is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).
